Serbia Reinterprets Folk Embroidery as Tattoo Art

In Novi Sad and Belgrade, tattoo workshops pair designers with textile historians to adapt traditional Serbian embroidery patterns—geometric borders, rosettes, and iconographic animals—into skin-friendly tattoos. Sessions include brief lessons on regional costume differences and motif meanings.

Community leaders emphasize cultural respect and accurate attribution so that designs honor, not appropriate, folk traditions. For many participants, the tattoos become mobile pages of local ethnography and pride.
