Japanese biotech companies introduced tattoos made with micro-encapsulated algae and moss that grow under the skin in intricate patterns. These living tattoos shift color depending on sunlight and hydration.

Tattooist Kenji Watanabe said: “It’s the closest we’ve come to a tattoo that truly lives.”
