Japan Eases Tattoo Ban in Public Hot Springs

In a landmark cultural shift, Japan officially relaxed its onsen (hot spring) tattoo restrictions, allowing tattooed visitors to bathe freely. Long seen as taboo due to Yakuza associations, tattoos are now recognized as mainstream art.

Tourism minister Yoko Tanaka said: “We must welcome the world, and tattoos are part of global culture.”
