LUBBOCK, Texas — In a move that has thrilled Red Raiders fans and excited college football analysts nationwide, Texas Tech University announced today that former standout wide receiver Michael Crabtree is returning to the program in an official capacity. Crabtree, who is widely regarded as the best receiver in Texas Tech history, will serve as the Special Advisor for Football Development and Alumni Engagement — a newly created role designed to enhance player mentorship, recruitment, and program legacy.

Crabtree’s return to Lubbock marks a full-circle moment for the former Red Raider, who captivated the nation during his time at Texas Tech from 2007 to 2008. In that span, he earned back-to-back Biletnikoff Awards, becoming the first player in history to do so as a freshman and sophomore. His unforgettable last-second touchdown catch against Texas in 2008 remains one of the most iconic moments in college football history.

Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt praised the move, saying, “Michael embodies what it means to be a Red Raider. His impact on the game and this program is legendary. We’re thrilled to have him return in this leadership role.”

As Special Advisor, Crabtree will mentor current players, assist with wide receiver development, and represent the program at alumni and recruiting events. His NFL experience and decorated college career are expected to provide invaluable insight to student-athletes.

Crabtree expressed his excitement: “Texas Tech gave me everything, and now I have the chance to give back. I want to help these young guys not only be great players but great men.”

This announcement reinforces Texas Tech’s commitment to honoring its legacy while investing in a bright future. Fans and alumni alike are celebrating the return of one of the program’s all-time greats.
