
Texas Tech Red Raiders Crowned Nation’s Top Athletic Program of 2025An Unprecedented Year of All-Sport
LUBBOCK, Texas — In a historic display of athletic excellence, Texas Tech University has been crowned the nation’s top athletic program for 2025, following a record-setting year that redefined all-sport success. The Red Raiders became the only school in the country to capture a national championship and earn postseason appearances in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and both softball and baseball.
Texas Tech’s crowning achievement came with a national title in track and field, capping off a year that saw the Red Raiders reach the Final Four in men’s basketball, advance to the Women’s College World Series in softball, host a softball regional, and secure a victory in a nationally televised bowl game.
“This is more than a great year—it’s a legacy-defining moment for Texas Tech athletics,” said Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “Our student-athletes, coaches, and fans have elevated Red Raider sports to unprecedented heights.”
The men’s basketball team electrified the nation with a Final Four run fueled by elite defense and clutch performances. Meanwhile, the women’s softball squad defied expectations, battling their way through the NCAA tournament to land among the nation’s elite eight.
In football, Texas Tech capped off its campaign with a bowl game win that energized Raider Nation and showcased the program’s upward trajectory under head coach Joey McGuire. Women’s basketball also had a resurgent season, making a deep run in March Madness.
