Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and the newer line-field confocal OCT (LC-OCT) offer dermatologists real-time, non-invasive imaging of tattoo pigment clusters in the dermis visualizing pigment depth, clustering and related inflammatory changes. That capability is useful for planning removals, documenting allergic or granulomatous reactions, and monitoring healing or migration to lymphatics. Because the methods are fast and biopsy-free, clinics are starting to integrate them into pre-treatment evaluations and research protocols.
