Researchers are pairing lasers with acoustic methods (photoacoustic monitoring and acoustic shock/ultrasound) to both improve tattoo-pigment fragmentation and provide real-time feedback on treatment efficacy. Photoacoustic signals help operators detect when pigment has been sufficiently disrupted; combining acoustic energy with lasers can accelerate clearance or reduce required energy per pass, potentially lowering side-effects. These hybrid workflows are still experimental in many clinics but may shorten total sessions and improve color-blind removal strategies when paired with HIFU or picosecond lasers.
