Mexico Revives Aztec and Maya Tattoo Traditions

In Mexico City and Oaxaca, tattooists are reconnecting with Aztec and Maya symbolism, bringing ancient glyphs and deities back to life in ink. These designs, once used to mark warriors and spiritual leaders, now symbolize identity and cultural pride.

Mexican youth are particularly drawn to tattoos of Quetzalcoatl (the feathered serpent) and traditional sun motifs. This movement is both artistic and political, as it challenges colonial legacies by reclaiming Indigenous traditions through modern tattoo culture.
