United States: Chicago Police Test “Tattoo Recognition Database” for Forensics

The Chicago Police Department has launched a pilot program using AI to catalog tattoos as identifying evidence in criminal investigations.
Tattoos are often visible in surveillance footage, and the database could match suspects based on unique designs. Civil liberties groups warn it risks profiling, especially in communities where tattoos are culturally common.
Police insist it will be used only in serious crimes and with judicial oversight.
