
In Nunavut and northern Canada, Inuit women are reviving traditional facial tattoos once banned by colonial authorities. These tattoos, called kakiniit, symbolize resilience, heritage, and connection to ancestors.
Younger generations are proudly wearing them in schools, workplaces, and even political campaigns. Anthropologists call it one of the most significant cultural tattoo revivals in North America in the past 50 years.
