Swiss Universities Study Tattoos as Cultural Archives

Researchers in Zurich are treating tattoos as “living archives,” studying how body art preserves stories of migration, war, and personal struggle. The project combines anthropology, history, and art to show how ink on skin can serve as a record of human experience.

Professors say the study will help students view tattoos not only as decoration but also as historical documents that carry meaning across generations.
