New York University Launches Course on Tattoo History

New York University has introduced a new course exploring the history and cultural impact of tattoos. The program covers ancient practices in Egypt and Polynesia, Japanese irezumi, and the rise of tattoos in Western societies.

Professors say the aim is to help students see tattoos not just as body art, but as a living archive of identity, tradition, and social change.
