Thailand Schools Teach Tattoo Culture and Safety

In Thailand, schools are introducing lessons that combine the country’s spiritual tattoo traditions, known as Sak Yant, with modern health education. Students learn how tattoos were historically believed to provide protection and strength, while also exploring their place in Thai culture today.

Health workers join the sessions to explain the risks of unsafe tattooing and emphasize the need for licensed professionals and proper hygiene. Temporary Sak Yant–inspired designs are used in classrooms to make learning interactive.

Educators say the program connects young people to their cultural roots while ensuring they make safe, informed choices about tattoos.
