Several universities in China have launched research projects on tattoos, exploring both their ancient roots and modern popularity. Scholars highlight how tattoos were once used by ethnic minorities for identity and storytelling, while also studying their rise in urban youth culture today.
As part of the initiative, public health experts are working with students to promote awareness of safe tattooing, hygiene, and skin care. Workshops use temporary tattoos to demonstrate how body art interacts with the skin and to teach anatomy.
Educators believe the program helps students understand tattoos as a balance of tradition, modern expression, and health responsibility.
