UK — Drunken DIY Ink Gone Horribly Wrong

The story: In May 2020, 35-year-old law student Natalie Rene (England) joined her friend in using a cheap £50 (~$60) tattoo kit from Amazon while intoxicated. Her goal: a simple love heart with an arrow. The result: an ink design resembling a “hairy penis” on her arm.

Additional tattoos and health consequences: Other botched inkings included a spiral with an “R” on her leg, a love heart on her hand, an arrow on her foot, and a semicolon on her wrist. The improperly deep inking caused bleeding and severe pain, prompting a hospital visit. A doctor warned she was lucky not to lose her arm.

Costly outcome: She lived with the distorted inking for three years, before paying around £1,350 (~$1,700) to get them professionally covered up. She no longer speaks with that friend and still regrets ever doing it. ﹣ She also strongly criticizes the easy availability of such DIY kits online.
