Temporary 3D Areola Tattoos for Breast Cancer Survivors

What’s happening: Permanent makeup artist and medical tattooist Ivonne Jimenez, based in Illinois and California, is using her skills (inspired by her mother’s breast cancer experience) to create realistic 3D areola tattoos for survivors who’ve undergone mastectomies .

Designed to foster emotional and physical reconnection during recovery, these tattoos cost around $10 and typically last 1–3 days, making them accessible and non-permanent .

She designs her work inclusively to match a wide range of skin tones.

Through social media, she’s trained other artists globally and received touching feedback from clients who describe feeling empowered and whole again—highlighting how art can be healing .
