BREAKING: Tennessee Vols Head Coach Josh Heupel Immediately Suspended Amid Secret Affair With Star Player’s Partner

KNOXVILLE, TN — Tennessee Volunteers head football coach Josh Heupel has been immediately suspended by the university following explosive allegations of a secret affair with the partner of one of the team’s top players.

The suspension, announced early Tuesday morning, comes after an internal report revealed what officials called a “serious breach of ethical and professional conduct.” According to multiple sources close to the program, the relationship had been ongoing for several months and was discovered by the player in late May. Emotional tensions within the team rose after the discovery, prompting fellow teammates to notify athletic department leadership.

The university launched an internal investigation earlier this month, and preliminary findings confirmed the inappropriate relationship. As a result, Heupel was placed on administrative leave pending a full review, but officials later upgraded the status to immediate suspension without pay.

“This type of behavior is completely unacceptable and violates both university policy and the standards we expect from our leaders,” Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White said in a statement. “We are acting swiftly and decisively to protect the integrity of our program and support all student-athletes involved.”

The player, whose identity has not been disclosed to protect his privacy, is reportedly receiving counseling and support from team staff.

Assistant Head Coach Alex Golesh is expected to serve as interim head coach as the university continues its review. The NCAA has also been informed and is monitoring the situation.

Heupel, who was hired in 2021 and led the team to national prominence, has not made a public statement regarding the allegations.

This scandal threatens to cast a long shadow over one of the SEC’s most promising programs heading into the

2025 season.
