Gainesville, FL – Florida Gators fans received a major jolt of excitement this week as one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects, Jalen Mitchell, announced his commitment to the University of Florida for the 2026 season.

Mitchell, a 5-star recruit out of Houston, Texas, is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the country and a top-10 overall prospect according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Known for his rocket arm, elite pocket presence, and dual-threat ability, Mitchell chose Florida over powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia, and USC.
In a nationally broadcast announcement on ESPN, Mitchell put on a Gators cap and said, “Florida feels like home. Coach Napier and his staff believe in me and in what I can bring to the Swamp. I want to help bring championships back to Gainesville.”
This marks a huge win for head coach Billy Napier and his staff, who have been working hard to secure elite talent and rebuild the Gators into perennial SEC contenders. Mitchell’s commitment instantly elevates Florida’s 2026 recruiting class into the top five nationally and sends a strong message to future recruits.
Jalen is a game-changer,” Napier said in a statement. “He’s a leader on and off the field and someone our fans are going to love watching for years to come.”
Mitchell threw for over 3,500 yards and 38 touchdowns last season while rushing for another 600 yards. His highlight reels have gone viral, drawing comparisons to former Gators great Anthony Richardson.
With Mitchell on board, Florida’s quarterback future looks brighter than ever—and fans in The Swamp have plenty of reason to cheer.
