In Lubbock, things are evolving. Technically speaking, everything is changing. At least in the world of collegiate athletics. Texas Tech (and other institutions) are now permitted to pay athletes directly through a brand-new revenue sharing model, following the NCAA’s recent departure from the amateurism paradigm of the past that it attempted to maintain.
Bagmen moving money about behind the scenes and bribing gamers in strange ways won’t be a concern for us. It’s unlikely that athletes will be seen on college campuses driving vehicles that were ultimately purchased by supporters and alumni of another university.
Things are evolving. There is a great deal of uncertainty because of all the changes. Numerous schools will find it difficult to adapt. As we proceed, the entire environment here will be drastically altered. And it appears that the Red Raiders are well-prepared for this as Texas Tech attempts to manage some of those adjustments.
Kirby Hocutt shares calming statement about future of Texas Tech athletics as Red Raiders prepare for revenue sharing model
βTexas Tech will continue to be a leader nationally in this era,β Hocutt said in a statement as part of Texas Techβs announcement on the new era of college athletics.
For my part, I value Hocutt and the Red Raiders’ dedication to ensuring Texas Tech remains a dominant force in this field. Personally, I believe it’s fantastic that they have a strategy and have been researching the evolution of collegiate athletics. Furthermore, it is, of course, quite comforting to see that the average fan can still influence Texas Tech athletics’ future after the House settlement.
“It will require all of us, but our donors and supporters will have the opportunity to influence our success like never before,” Hocutt said. “Gifts to the Red Raider Club, no matter how big or small, help give the best potential student-athletes the chance to compete and give us the resources we need to create championship rosters, like many of our programs are doing right now.”
In general, Texas Tech’s athletic department has recently seen a significant increase in funding. Texas Tech is dedicated to succeeding in this area, as evidenced by the signing of NiJaree Canady, the remarkable football facility improvements and upgrades, the Red Raiders football team’s stellar signing class, and the additions of Shiel Wood and Mack Leftwich. We’re going to see another illustration of that now.
