HOMECOMING HERO: Drew Lock Returns to Missouri Tigers as Director of Player Development, Bringing NFL Experience, Leadership, and Passion Back to His Alma Mater in a Powerful Move That Aims to Inspire, Mentor, and Elevate the Next Generation .

COLUMBIA, Mo. — In a heartfelt homecoming that has energized the Missouri Tigers football program, former Mizzou star and NFL quarterback Drew Lock is returning to his alma mater as Director of Player Development. The university announced the move Monday, highlighting Lock’s NFL experience, leadership qualities, and deep connection to the program as key reasons for the hire.

Lock, who starred at Mizzou from 2015 to 2018, is one of the most prolific quarterbacks in school history. After being drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, he spent five seasons in the league, most recently with the Seattle Seahawks. Now, he’s bringing that wealth of knowledge back to Columbia.

“This program means the world to me,” Lock said in a statement. “It shaped who I am as a player and as a person. I’m honored to return in a role where I can mentor young men, help them grow on and off the field, and give back to the university that gave me so much.”

As Director of Player Development, Lock will focus on supporting student-athletes in areas such as leadership, personal growth, academic success, and preparation for life after football. His presence is expected to resonate strongly with current players, many of whom grew up watching his collegiate and professional career.

Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz welcomed the addition, calling it “a game-changer for our program.”

“Drew Lock is Mizzou through and through,” Drinkwitz said. “Having someone who has walked the same path and succeeded at the highest level is invaluable for our players.”

Lock’s return marks a new chapter not only in his own journey but also in the evolution of the Tigers program — one rooted in tradition, driven by purpose, and now fueled by the return of one of its brightest stars.
