Alabama basketball star Mark Sears has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2025 NBA Draft and return to the Crimson Tide for the 2025–26 season. The 6-foot-1 guard from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, made the announcement on social media, expressing his excitement to continue his collegiate career.

Sears had previously declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. However, after receiving feedback from NBA teams indicating that he would likely be selected in the second round, Sears chose to return to Alabama. He cited the opportunity to further develop his skills, particularly on defense, and the financial incentives offered by Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals as factors influencing his decision.

During the 2024–25 season, Sears was a standout performer for Alabama, leading the team with an average of 21.5 points per game. He also contributed 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, earning Second Team All-American and First Team All-SEC honors. His exceptional performance was instrumental in Alabama’s historic run to the Final Four.

With Sears returning, Alabama’s prospects for the upcoming season have significantly improved. The Crimson Tide are now ranked No. 2 in the preseason Top 25 And 1 rankings, bolstered by the return of key players and the addition of talented transfers.

Head coach Nate Oats expressed his enthusiasm for Sears’ decision, highlighting the guard’s leadership and competitive spirit. Oats noted that Sears’ return provides Alabama with a seasoned and dynamic player poised to lead the team in pursuit of a national championship.

Sears’ return marks a significant boost for Alabama basketball as they aim to build on their recent success and contend for the national title in the upcoming season.
