
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio State University Marching Band once again proved why it’s known as “The Best Damn Band in the Land” with a groundbreaking halftime performance that combined precision marching with dazzling technology, captivating fans and setting a new standard in collegiate marching shows.

During Saturday’s home game at Ohio Stadium, the band debuted a never-before-seen routine titled “Marching Through Time,” which featured synchronized drone light effects, animated formations, and a live-streamed band member’s point-of-view from the field. As the band morphed into a moving clock, a roaring dinosaur, and a dancing robot, the crowd of over 100,000 erupted in awe, cheering not just for the music but the innovation.
“This was more than a performance – it was an experience,” said senior drum major Jordan Thompson. “We wanted to honor the band’s history while showing how the future of marching band is evolving.”
The show was the result of months of planning, involving collaborations between the university’s School of Music, College of Engineering, and even alumni from the animation industry. Band director Christopher Hoch called it “a perfect marriage of art and science.”
Fans took to social media to praise the performance, with some comparing it to Super Bowl-level spectacles. “Only at Ohio State do you see a marching band push creative boundaries like this,” one tweet read.
This performance not only entertained—it also inspired. Hoch hinted that the band might take their new tech-powered show on a national tour, bringing their innovative blend of tradition and technology to stages across the country.
