May 26, 2025 — Minneapolis, MN Adrian Peterson, one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, was honored today by the Minnesota Vikings in a special ceremony at U.S. Bank Stadium. Wearing his iconic No. 28 Vikings uniform, Peterson appeared before a crowd of cheering fans to celebrate his legendary career.
Drafted seventh overall in 2007, Peterson quickly made his mark on the league with a rare combination of speed, power, and vision. During his ten seasons with the Vikings, he amassed over 11,000 rushing yards and 97 rushing touchdowns. In 2012, just months after tearing his ACL and MCL, Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards—just eight yards shy of the single-season record—earning him the NFL MVP award.
Today’s event, hosted by the Vikings organization, included highlights of Peterson’s most memorable moments, including his record-setting 296-yard game against the San Diego Chargers in 2007—still the highest single-game rushing total in NFL history. Former teammates, coaches, and fans paid tribute to his work ethic, leadership, and impact on and off the field.
“Adrian Peterson is not just a Vikings legend—he’s a football icon,” said Vikings owner Mark Wilf. “He defined an era of excellence in Minnesota.”
Peterson, now 40, expressed gratitude for the support he’s received throughout his career. “It’s a blessing to be back where it all started,” he said. “This stadium, these fans, this jersey—it all means the world to me.”
While Peterson last played in the NFL in 2021, his legacy remains firmly entrenched in Vikings history. Talks are already underway to induct him into the team’s Ring of Honor later this year, a fitting tribute to one of the most dominant runners the game has ever seen.
